TERROIR
Elegant wines, unique terroir
The Vineyard
TERROIR
The soil is rich in skeleton, iron clays and minerals, elements that give the wine important characteristics in terms of aroma and complexity. The very deep soil provides an essential water reserve for ripening in the drier months.
EXPOSURE
Tenuta Prima Pietra is located in a privileged position: a hill facing the coast, from which, on clear days, the island of Elba and Capraia can be seen. The vineyards are exposed to full and intense light, which gives vitality to the plants and consequently to the wine.
ALTITUDE
Our vineyard is located at 450 meters above sea level and is the highest on the Tuscan coast. Breezes from the sea and significant temperature fluctuations are crucial to the aromas and slow ripening of the grapes; guaranteeing the wine’s perfect balance.
TENUTA PRIMA PIETRA
The Land
Prima Pietra is located on the beautiful Tuscan coast, just a few kilometers from the sea, in the municipality of the medieval village of Riparbella, which stretches along the southern slopes of Poggio di Nocola, overlooking the right bank of the Cecina River.
Here, the hillside is characterized by Mediterranean scrub, characteristic rows of cypress trees, fine vineyards and rich olive groves, with a significant number of organic or biodynamic vintners.
TUSCAN COAST GRAND CRU ASSOCIATION
Culture and Local Qualities
Tenuta Prima Pietra is part of the Associazione Grandi Cru della Costa Toscana, which was founded more than 10 years ago to promote the culture of quality wines produced in the provinces of Massa-Carrara, Lucca, Pisa, Livorno and Grosseto and the identity of each member, united by a common denominator: the Tyrrhenian Sea, which, with its winds and scents, strongly influences the character of the wines and makes this area absolutely unique.
